Day 4 Beijing to Shanghai

Our fourth day in China was mainly a day of travel, as we decided to take the Bullet Train from Beijing to Shanghai! We got to the train station around 9:00am, but all of the second class tickets were sold out until noon, so we decided to splurge on first class tickets so that we could leave at 9:30am 😉 It was only about $50.00 more each for first class tickets and that part of the train was pretty empty, so it was totally worth it!

We arrived in Shanghai at about 3:30pm and took a taxi from the train station to our apartment. I can’t tell you how different Shanghai looked compared to Beijing, it was like night and day! Beijing had been very smoggy and polluted, but Shanghai was bright and sunny! It also looked…wealthier I guess? Definitely like a newer more hip city than Beijing. The architecture was amazing, we stayed in the French Concession area of Shanghai and it was absolutely gorgeous!

Our apartment was equally stunning! It was decorated in a classic French theme, just like the neighborhood, and the host we had was amazing, she really went above and beyond to make sure our stay was very comfortable and enjoyable. Here is a link to her profile on AirBnB, I definitely recommend staying at any of her 13 locations in Shanghai!

For the rest of our day, we just decided to walk around and see the neighborhood we were staying in. It was pretty upscale; there was a high end mall right across the street from our gated community, as well as a pedestrian shopping street close by, so plenty to do and see! That night we were kind of lame and decided to have dinner at KFC…In our defense, we had a much harder time finding food in Shanghai that did not have pork in it than we did in Beijing!
