Mix and matching pieces of different fabrics can add depth and detail to your every day look. Lace, Leather, and Velvet

I’m sure you’ve seen this lace dress before; I styled it traditionally here for a sweet and girly look. I’m all about versatility though, so I love how I can transition this dress from spring and summer, to fall and winter! For a fun fall look I threw on my cropped leather jacket from Bar III and a pair of velvet fitted booties from Traffic Shoe (on sale here!). I love this combination for a few reasons: 1.) the black details add an edgy vibe to an otherwise feminine dress, 2.) leather jackets and ankle booties are great for adding warmth, and 3.) I can continue to layer with tights or a chunky sweater and take this look from fall to winter in a snap!

How to Mix Textures like a Pro

  1. Balance a shiny material (like patent leather) with something muted or basic, like cotton. I love the look of a black patent leather skirt with a cotton t-shirt for a cool, edgy, and effortless look!
  2. Pair a ruffled blouse with studded pants (or pants with grommets,  like these!) to add some interest
  3. Leather and lace is a classic mix of textures, because it pairs feminine and edgy seamlessly
  4. To ensure your look is cohesive, try to keep the color of your textures in the same family (notice how my look is neutral? I personally wouldn’t pair a neutral lace dress with a neon blazer or shoes)

How’re you adding depth and dimension to your fall wardrobe? Are you a fan of mixing textures? It’s something I’ve always thought looked great, but until recently I hadn’t given it a try! I’m really loving it lately though, what trends are you loving? Leave me a comment and let me know!
