what to wear to a summer wedding

Well loves, it’s summer again, and you know what that means? Yep, it’s wedding season! I have two weddings coming up in July that I’ll be attending so I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect outfit. Luckily though, I’m a bridesmaid in one of the weddings, so I don’t have to worry about that one πŸ˜‰ For the wedding where I’ll just be a guest, I did happen to find a dress that I absolutely love, is perfect for a wedding, and also versatile enough to be worn again. So, if you’ve got a wedding coming up and need some ideas on what to wear to a summer wedding, then keep reading cause I got ya girl ;p

What to Wear to a Summer Wedding

I don’t really agree with people who have tons of rules about wedding guest attire. Dressing for a wedding doesn’t have to be a huge to-do, and it doesn’t have to stress you out. There are only two rules that I bear in mind:

  1. Don’t wear white!Β Don’t even think about wearing white! Seriously, just don’t do it. You know the bride is going to be wearing white and she wants to be (and should be!) the person who stands out. Unless the invitation specifically states “please wear white,” then DON’T. WEAR. WHITE. This kind of applies to bridal events as well, such as Rehearsal Dinners and Bridal Showers, but if you have any doubts, just ask someone in the wedding party πŸ™‚
  2. The attire request on the wedding invitation really is what you should wear! Typical attire suggestions you’ll see are casual, semi-formal, and formal. Try to stick to those attire requests as much as you possibly can. If you’re not sure what to wear, Google search it, or ask someone in the wedding party. Trust me, the bride and groom would not putΒ “Formal Attire Preferred” on their invitation if they wanted you to show up in jeans and a t-shirt. This goes for more casual weddings as well. I’ve been to some pretty casual weddings where the attire suggestion was “Backyard BBQ” (what?), and some ladies showed up in 6-inch heels #awkward

For those summer weddings, an extra layer of “what do I wear?” is added because it’s most likely gonna be HOT. Try to keep to cool and breezy fabrics, like this Maison Jules dress (available here) from Macy’s. This is just a polyester dress, but the fabric feels nice and light and it has some great movement to the skirt to keep you cool. For men, I think fitted linen pants and a nice light button up is really attractive for a summer wedding. I love these pants here with this button up and these dress shoes. Add a fun bowtie, like this one here, and your man will be turning heads for sure πŸ˜‰

I think this dress is perfect for a summer wedding mainly because of the versatility. I can wear it to the wedding, on a date, to brunch, even for just a casual weekend look! Just switch up the heels for some strappy sandals, throw on a hat and grab your tote and you’re Saturday Market ready πŸ™‚

If you’re still unsure on what to wear to a summer wedding, I’ve linked some dresses below that I love! If you shop at Lulu’s (they have some AMAZING wedding guest dresses) shipping is free if you spend $50.00! Also, Macy’s is having a big sale on Sunday so I’ve linked some similar Maison Jules dresses below πŸ™‚

Do you have any summer weddings to attend this season? Where’s the farthest you’ve ever traveled for a wedding? Let me know in the comments!
