Ahh…Labor Day Weekend. Always a nostalgic feeling for me – the weather is changing, kids are getting ready to go back to school, and once again I’m forlorn at not receiving my Hogwarts letter…just kidding about that last part he he…(but really though, I think my owl got lost).

OK, in all seriousness, this time of year really makes me think about all those First Days of School! I remember working so hard to get the perfect outfit together, starting in probably 5th grade. To give you a little idea of how my style has evolved…

  • 5th Grade – I wore a purple floral midi dress with a bow tie in the back that definitely made me look like I just hopped off the Oregon Trail.
  • 6th Grade – I wore a red and black pleated plaid skirt, black waffle-stompers, and a button up white shirt (did somebody say jail bait?).
  • 7th Grade – bell bottom jeans, a blue tank top with a collar (OMG) and blue over-sized Sketchers with no shoe laces.
  • 8th Grade – a black t-shirt from possibly Pac Sun cause I was obsessed with that store, and I had a perm (nothing else needed right?).
  • Freshman Year – grey skinny jeans, fake Converse All-Stars, and a grey and pink button-up tank (and I went off campus for lunch and felt super cool about it).
  • Sophomore Year – dear God I don’t even want to talk about this…ok, here it goes. A tan corduroy skirt, a fuzzy pink sweater with a fuzzy pink scarf, and pink fake Ugg boots…
  • Junior Year – skinny jeans, black flats, and a black off the shoulder sweater (basically Lauren Conrad from The Hills on the day her and Jason broke up).
  • Senior Year – skinny jeans, a random t-shirt, converse, and a sweater (I was a senior and I didn’t GAF).

Yeah, that was me, in all my glory. Nowadays though, I wouldn’t be caught dead in half of what I just described. Luckily though, for this blog post I teamed up with Rachel from the blog One Pot Slop to talk about our personal style, and help me photograph this look (which is actually perfect for the First Day of School!).

I love this look because it portrays the perfect “cool girl” vibe (thanks Rachel! 😉 ). The tropical print top from Forever 21 with the Bar III leather jacket is great because it’s versatile – if it’s cool, wear the jacket, but if it gets warm, take it off and you have a great top the embodies the effortless style of summer with the colors of fall.

This bag is my new favorite! I got this baby in Shanghai, China at the boutique Asobio and have been using it non-stop! My favorite part is that it is black and white, so I can wear it no matter the season!

The distressed or “undone” hem of these Sneak Peek jeans from Nordstrom Rack are perfect for the upcoming season. They definitely give a more relaxed and playful look to your average pair of jeans, and the best part is that if you’re on a budget, you can totally do it yourself!

I hope you guys liked this Back to School look that I put together! Don’t forget to check out One Pot Slop for even more fashion advise!
