honest summery friday's review

If you’re on Instagram and follow any bloggers, then you’ve probably heard of Summer Friday’s. The brand was founded by two bloggers turned entrepreneur, and together they have launched seven beauty products to date. I’d say the most well-known product is their first, the Jet Lag Mask. I’ve been using this product for about a year and have repurchased it FOUR TIMES! I’ll also be sharing my thoughts on the other products I’ve tried, so keep reading if you want an honest Summer Friday’s review!

My Skincare Journey & Struggles

A little about my skin…I’ve struggled with acne for over half my life. Before getting pregnant with Ayla I had some of the worst hormonal acne along my jawline. It was so painful. Every time I went to the dermatologist they’d just recommend pills or creams like doxycycline and Differin (which NEVER worked). The last time I visited the dermatologist, she literally told me I was just going to be one of those people who always had acne.

Like, what?!

Obviously, that was NOT going to work for me. So I started trying to figure out my skin type and how to take care of it. My skin is sensitive, prone to redness, and oily in the t-zone. I used to think I couldn’t use serums, oil, or rich moisturizer because it would make my skin extra oily. What I didn’t realize was that the overproduction of oil was actually from not getting enough moisture to begin with. Once I made this realization and started choosing products made for my skin type, things changed.

Hormones also had a lot to do with my skincare struggles. After I got pregnant, my hormonal acne completely went away, and luckily, it hasn’t came back. I do get breakouts but now they’re only dependent on my diet (if I eat too much sugar and dairy, I start breaking out around my mouth and chin).

My Honest Review of the Summer Friday’s Jet Lag Mask

When Marianna Hewitt started Summer Friday’s, I knew I wanted to try the Jet Lag Mask. I’d been following her for years, and I wanted to support this new venture. It is a little on the spendy side at $48 for a 2.25oz tube, but it also comes in a mini 1oz and a value sized 5oz tube (which I now exclusively purchase!). You can purchase it on the Summer Friday’s website, or I like to buy it at Sephora to get reward points 🙂

I wasn’t sure about this product in the beginning. The consistency is pretty thick and I remember using it on a flight as a sleeping mask and feeling like my skin was oily. After that I started just using it at night, and the extra time to soak into my skin made such a difference! I love how my skin looks every morning. It’s super hydrating, does not clog my pores, and I swear it helps settle down some of my redness and sensitivity. I use this every night as my night cream and also under my eyes on top of my eye cream for extra hydration!

I would say that despite the price, this product is definitely worth it. If you’re thinking about trying it, start with the mini (available here), and if you love it, definitely get this value sized one!

Summer Friday’s Review – Other Products

  • Overtime Mask – YES YES YES. LOVE LOVE LOVE! You need this ASAP. I’ve repurchased this five times because it’s an amazing manual exfoliant. I use it 3x per week in the shower after my regular cleanser. What I do after cleansing is rub it all over my face, neck, and chest, then let it sit while I finish up. Then I rinse it out just before getting out of the shower.
  • R + R Mask – this mask smells amazing and leaves your skin feeling petaly soft. However, I never could get past the residue leftover on my skin. The mask is sort of hard to get off the way the instructions describe (wiping face with a washcloth), so I always have to take a shower. At $52, I also feel that it’s overpriced.
  • Super Amino Gel Cleanser – I’m almost out of this cleanser and I’ve been using it for about six months, so it lasts awhile! What I love is that my skin doesn’t feel stripped down to nothing after using it. I also like that it’s more affordable at $38 for 5oz. What I don’t like is the smell. It’s not a bad smell, but I prefer my cleansers to be odorless. All in all I think it’s a good product, but I’m not sure I’d repurchase, just because I have other cleansers I like more. (Click here for details!)
  • CC Me Vitamin C Serum – this product is a little pricey at $64 for 1oz, but I honestly love it. I’ve tried two other Vitamin C serums from reputable brands and around the same price, and this one is much better. The consistency is great and it leaves my skin super glowy without irritation (Vitamin C can be pretty harsh!). I would definitely repurchase and recommend this product for anyone just starting out using Vitamin C in their skincare routine!
  • Lip Butter Balm – meh. That’s kind of all I have to say. It’s OK. Tastes OK good, feels super buttery-sticky. The worst part is the freaking tube! Every time I open the lid, product starts coming out. Also would never pay $22 for this product again.
