posing tips

Do you ever feel awkward in front of the camera? Like you don’t know what to do or how to stand? I literally feel like this all the time, but you would never know it from looking at my photos, right? That’s because I try to keep moving. Regardless of how uncomfortable you are, you will always look more natural if you add movement to your photos and poses. Here are some posing tips to help you add movement and not look awkward AF.

Cute & easy posing tips for beginners

Here are a few easy poses that add movement to your photos. They take zero skill, feel SUPER awkward, but make your photos so much better!

ARMS OUT & SPIN AROUND

Put your arms out like you’re pretending to fly and spin around. Start facing the camera and turn to a 90 degree angle. Level Up: stand closer to the camera with it below your arms and angled upwards.

WALK AROUND

Literally the easiest posing tip to add movement. Walk back and forth, towards and away from the camera. Remember to walk a little slower and over-exaggerate your steps so your photog has time to capture the image!

PLAY WITH YOUR HAIR

This one will probably feel the most natural because if you’re nervous, you’re probably already touching your hair πŸ˜‰

IF IT’S WINDY, LET NATURE ADD MOVEMENT FOR YOU

Just stand there and let the wind do it’s thang. This works especially well if you are wearing a flowy dress or skirt or have long hair.

Tips for editing your photos

The eye perceives photos with movement as more interesting, but you can add interest to your photos with the way you edit them as well. You might not be able to add movement, but you can add depth by increasing the clarity and the sharpness of your image. Here are a few examples of photos where I increased the clarity to add depth and interest. I’ve also listed my favorite editing apps as well!

  • Tezza App
  • Snapseed
  • Lightroom Mobile
    • If you want to use Lightroom but are a beginner, check out my presets! They’re super easy to use and come in a variety of tones/moods. All of the photos in this post were edited using my preset pack πŸ™‚
