My husband and I grew up in pretty small towns. I’m from the Rogue Valley in Southern Oregon, and my husband spent the majority of his life living in Pullman, Washington. Our families still live there, so we go back to visit pretty frequently. And as much as I love visiting, it can get a liiitle monotonous in a small town. Sometimes you have to get creative and find fun things to do, which is why I’ve made a list of five fun things you can do ANYWHERE.
If you travel a lot or tend to visit (or live in!) a small town, then be sure to pin this post for reference later! You never know when you might find yourself in a situation where you need ideas on fun things to do.
5 Fun Things to do ANYWHERE
- Visit the local coffee shop – I don’t know what it is about small towns, but they all tend to have quirky little coffee shops. I love searching one out, especially since they’re usually pretty cozy and you can try the local brew and treats!
- Go for a hike – you can literally hike ANYWHERE. Hiking is just walking, so get out there and check out the local scenery!
- Before you arrive, check the local event calendars to see if there are any fun things to do coming up. For example, Pullman has a yearly Lentil Festival (yes, you read that right, lentils ladies and gentlemen) that I’m kind of obsessed with.
- Most towns have a small “downtown” area, or a least, the main drag LOL. Take a stroll and see if you can find any unique shops to peak around in!
- Eat local – nothing is better than small town home cooking to warm your soul!
When my husband and I went to Pullman a couple weeks ago, I made sure to check out the local farmer’s market across the border in Moscow, Idaho (where I had some of the most delicious pork dumplings and beef buns). Farmer’s Markets are kind of my jam anywhere, so I was pretty excited. We also went to two local coffee shops during our weekend, and on the way home we took a detour to check out the Palouse Falls! It was pretty spectacular and not gonna lie, kind of terrifying at the same time LOL.

WOW! That waterfall is absolutely stunning. I grew up in a small town and still live there ( we also travel as much as we can though so it’s a lovely balance) but yesss to hiking and going to farmers markets and such!
