What to wear to nyfw

Fashion month is fast approaching, and in just three weeks I’ll be headed off to New York! Most of your probably know that I went in February (check out the post, here!), but I’m even more excited this time around! I’ve always heard NYFW in the fall is where it’s at, both experience and style wise, so I’m picking my outfits carefully and planning ahead this time! I thought it might be fun to do a post about what to wear to NYFW and what styles I’ll be rocking this season, so if that interests you, keep reading! OH, I’ll also be throwing in a few style tips that I learned last season!

NYFW Style Tips & Tricks

NYC is huge, as you probably know. As you also probably know, you’re going to do a lot of walking. One thing that doesn’t pair well with walking? Heels. If you think you’ll want to wear heels to the shows, make sure you’re either:

  1. Taking a cab, or
  2. Toting around a small ballet flat to save your feet
    • I have this pair of nude flats from DSW and I love them! Super affordable and comfortable and easy to pack!

Also, when it comes to dressing for NYFW, always stay true to yourself. Yes, it’s fashion week and pushing boundaries with your personal style is fun, but nothing is worse than being in a new environment wearing something you’re not 100% comfortable and confident in. I made this mistake last year, and don’t plan on making it again!

What I’m Wearing to NYFW this Season

This season I’m feeling more myself and I have a pretty clear idea of the styles I want to embrace. Last season I was still just five months postpartum, and most of my old clothes didn’t fit at all. I didn’t want to spend an arm and a leg on new items for NYFW (heck, I still don’t!), and I was pretty discouraged about the way my body looked. I know, I know, I shouldn’t feel that way and get down on myself. But it’s hard! After you have a baby it’s just crazy how your relationship to your body changes.

But anyways, back to the point. Now that I’ve actually been working out consistently I’ve been able to fit back into a lot of my old clothes and I’m feeling more myself. So you better believe I’m ready to go all out! One of the styles that I’m excited to wear is a full monochrome look.

I think monochrome is super chic and can really elevate an outfit. I also really like the knit sweater & skirt pairing trend, and I’m thinking of combining the two using the skirt above! Also, all those pieces you see above are items I’ve recently purchased that I’ll be taking to NYFW this fall!

Another look I’m excited to try is my mom jeans paired with an oversized menswear inspired blazer. I purchased the one above from Saks Off 5th for $20 and I can’t wait to style it! I absolutely love the look of a good pair of mom jeans worn with a tight bodysuit and blazer. I’m getting excited just thinking about it haha!

Lastly, the third daytime outfit I’m preparing is a little more bright and colorful. I found a really cute Lucca Couture skirt at a local thrift store in Portland called Crossroads Trading Co. It’s a red and white gingham print and SO cute! I want to pair that skirt with a crop top in a contrasting color, add some fun heels and earrings, and embody the summer vibe!

What’s one trend you’ve been wanting to branch out and try? Let me know in the comments!
